Production Process

Here’s How it Works

At Kersh Media, we’ve perfected the process of planning and producing video content. It means you can have confidence that you’re working with a professional, creative organisation that will deliver on time and on budget. It’s what we do every day!

For every video project, the producti0n process typically follows the steps below:

Step 1: Initial Consultation
We work with you to define what type of video you need. Is it for marketing or training purposes? Who’s your target audience? Where is it going to be shown? Whatever your vision is for the final product; we want to make sure we fully understand what you’re trying to achieve. We’ll also suggest new ideas or approaches to you and show you examples of other video projects we’ve produced. Usually we’ll meet face to face to discuss this. If you have an idea of how much you want to spend, we can discuss outline budgets as well.

Step 2: Creative Proposal

Next we’ll put together a written proposal. This outlines the concept, summarizes the story and determines the creative approach of your video. A well-written creative treatment takes the light bulb glowing over your head and makes it visible to others. Our team is happy to work from an existing idea or develop a new one that meets your commercial objectives. The proposal will also contain a detailed breakdown of costs so you can see exactly what you’re getting and exactly how much it’s going to cost.

Step 3: Order Confirmation

If you’re happy to continue, we’ll send you an order confirmation and invoice for a percentage of the budget agreed. Usually this is 50%

Step 4: Scripting

Next comes a written script with a list of shots so you can see exactly what will be filmed and exactly what will be said. At Kersh Media we include unlimited pre-production script re-writes as standard. This means you can amend the script as many times as you like at no additional cost (before filming takes place). This helps ensure the visual storytelling, visuals and words all reflect your expectations. It also helps minimize surprises and revisions once the video is complete. We generally don’t produce a traditional storyboard as experience shows that a well written script is just as effective – it also means we can keep the costs down and the budget low. However, if you require a full storyboard, this can be provided at additional cost.

Step 4: Planning & Preparation

With the creative treatment & script for your video confirmed and signed off, we will then work with you to plan & schedule the production of your video content from start to finish. Nothing is left to chance. In fact good planning and preparation are probably the single most important things to ensuring a professional video is produced on time and on budget. We’ll work with you to prepare a shooting schedule which accurately estimates how long the different elements will take to shoot, who needs to be where etc. All our shoots are risk -assessed to ensure health and safety issues are properly considered.

Step 5: Production & Filming

We shoot your video to the agreed script and schedule. All filming is done with the latest HD cameras in full 1080p. We use top quality optical lenses to ensure a beautiful, contemporary style. Professional lighting and sound kit is always used to ensure everything looks and sounds great. Depending on the nature of the video being produced, we may also use specialist equipment to make the camera glide across the scene, mini cameras etc.

Step 6: Editing

Once filming is complete, we will go straight to work on the first draft of your video. The edit will be in keeping with script agreed. All of the text and graphics used within the video will be produced in keeping with your brand guidelines. We use top quality professionally composed and performed music licensed for online use.

Step 7: Review & Approval

We will then send you an email with a link to your rough cut. The rough cut will be provided with burned-in timecode to help you identify individual shots. We’ll also send you a form to complete to request any changes, amends or alterations. Each project comes with 1 round of revisions as standard. We encourage you to take your time and show the rough cut to stakeholders and staff to get a range of opinions. When you’re ready, send us your detailed list of amends and we’ll get cracking to produce the final cut.

Step 8: Final Cut

When it’s ready, we’ll deliver the final cut in a format of your choice (typically .mov or .mp4). We’ll also send you an invoice for the balance of the budget.

Step 9: Video Marketing

Kersh Media are experts at Video Marketing and Video SEO.  We’ll steer you in the right direction to help publish your video on video sharing sites such as YouTube or Vimeo and optimize it so it will be indexed by search engines.

So How Long Does it Take?

Every project is unique, but if you’re able to sign off scripts and rough cuts very quickly, then the whole process can proceed very quickly. We recently produced a video for a client in just under a week! This included meeting, planning, shooting, rough cut and final cut. This was a little extreme, but demonstrates how quickly we can work. Generally we’d say 6-10 weeks for the above process is a reasonable estimate.

However complex projects with motion graphics, several days filming and complex setting up or research can take longer. Similarly we find that some organisations prefer to take their time when it comes to signing off scripts and rough cuts in order to consult widely. That’s fine too, we’re comfortable working to eye-wateringly tight deadlines, or to long-term, slow-burn projects that take a year or more to complete.
